Get to Know This Role
Reporting to the Director of Quality Assurance and Food Safety, the Food Safety Manager is responsible for providing proactive leadership and instruction in Food Safety for Sierra Nevada. The Food Safety Manager oversees the implementation of the requirements, policies, procedures (SOPs), programs and training components of the food safety management system across the organization. This role frequently partners with leaders across the organization to drive food safety culture and provide food safety leadership and subject matter expertise. The Food Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of Quality Practitioner and Technical Document Specialists and Management Systems Specialist.

What You Will Do
Leads implementation and improvement of the food safety culture program including food safety awareness.
Monitor, verify, and validate SQF (Safe Quality Food) systems.
Leads and conducts internal audits in accordance with SQF standards.
Monitors food safety programs including Controlled Documents, CAPA, Food Safety Plans, Approved Supplier Program, mock exercises, and other similar programs and maintains to inspection ready standards at all times
Responsible for management and mentoring a team of specialists dedicated to food safety
Ensures proper document control across the organization
Works collaboratively with regulatory and compliance to oversee and maintain the recall process and manual and related documentation.
Develops and assesses the Food Defense program implementing new mitigations as need to decrease risk.
Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal agencies and remains up to date with changing requirements.
Advise and support the site management team on all food safety issues within their areas of responsibility.
Responsible for monitoring and investigating consumer concerns related to food safety.
Effectively communicate regulation and program changes to management and provides plans for adherence to changes.
Conducts regularly scheduled meetings across working groups and departments to ensure compliance with food safety program and regulations.
Maintains organized and easily followed documentation related to food safety and connected programs to ensure easy access across the organization.
Ability to communicate in a clear and practical manner across levels of the organization.
This role is responsible for production and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Safe Quality Food (SQF) System as defined in the SQF Code.There will be Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety and Food Security Training as required by Local, State, Federal and SNBC policies. All duties will be completed in a manner that is consistent with all aspects of Company Safety Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF). Employees shall report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in food science or other science related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required and
5 years quality/food safety production environment experience required and
3 years supervisory and/or management experience required and
SQF certification experience required

Demonstrated ability to think in systems and break complex technical problems down into testable hypothesis; skilled in complex problem solving and able to interface with technical experts to bring objectives to resolution
Working knowledge and experience with development and implementation of food safety and continuous improvement efforts such as: GMPs, HACCP, SPCs, six sigma, and RCA facilitation. Expert knowledge and application of Quality Management Systems, required
PCQI certification upon hire required

HAACP certification upon hire required
Internal Auditing certification upon hire required
